Police say two young Tweed brothers, whose disappearance sparked an area-wide search are deliberately avoiding them, after one of them was spotted at a campsite near Tallow Beach on Wednesday afternoon.
Fourteen-year-old 14-year-old Jayden Brady and his 11-year-old brother Joseph went missing from their home around 3am on Sunday morning.
Their father, 38-year-old Damien Brady, presented to Byron police station on Monday where he was arrested for breaching an AVO on another matter but was released on Tuesday after he was granted bail by Lismore Local Court.
This morning, at a media conference, police said they believed the boys were alive and called upon anyone who knew their whereabouts to contact them.
Acting on information, police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command this afternoon conducted a major search of dense bushland at Tallow Beach at Byron Bay from missing brothers, Jayden and Joseph Brady, aged 14 and 11.
This evening police said in a statement that ‘officers found a makeshift campsite where they believe the brothers have been staying with their father’.
They added that ‘at least one of the brothers was seen to run from police into the bushland’.
Police said there were ‘a number of campsites’ in the bushland behind the beach, in an area they described as ‘almost impenetrable’.
‘Due to the conditions, police will no longer be conducting searches in the area but will follow a number other lines of inquiry to find them,’ they said, adding that despite seeing one of the boys they continue to hold serious concerns for their welfare.
Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.
The father is Daniel Brady, not Damien Brady.
