Mullumbimby railway station burns down

At around midnight last night, a fire started which engulfed the old Mullumbimby railway station. It's been twenty years since the last train came through, but the building has been an important community hub, providing office space for a number of organisations, including COREM, Mullum Music Festival and Social Futures.

A 24-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman have been charged with drug offences following a search of a Ballina property yesterday.

Police from the Richmond LAC executed a search warrant at an address in Henry Phillip Avenue, Ballina yesterday.

During the search police seized drugs believed to be Methyl-amphetamine (ICE), steroids, cannabis and restricted pharmaceutical drugs.

They also seized a significant amount property including power tools, toiletry items, toys and an amount of cash.

Police will allege the property was exchanged for the supply of drugs.

A 24 year-old man was charged with supplying a prohibited drug, possessing a prohibited drug, possessing prohibited prescribed substance and dealing with proceeds of crime.

A 19-year-old woman was charged with supplying a prohibited drug and possession of a prohibited drug.

The pair were bailed to appear at Ballina Local Court next month.
