Prince of Penzance has won the 2015 Melbourne Cup, making jockey Michelle Payne the first ever woman to win the cup.

Second was Irish stayer Max Dynamite and third Criterion.

The Payne family is well known to Australian racing with many wins under their belts.

A sad moment in the cup was the fact that popular favourite Red Cadeaux failed to finish its fourth Melbourne Cup and will probably have to be put down
