A 2015 book on immunity of state officials for international crimes was among the most popular books checked out at the United Nations library in New York last year, topping the list for newly acquired books.

The book, Immunity of Heads of State and State Officials for International Crimes, by Ramona Pedretti, was checked out twice and borrowed for in-house browsing four times in 2015, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.

He noted that the overall most popular book during the year was I am Malala, written by Pakistani education activist and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, which was checked out eight times.

Pedretti’s book, which was based on her doctoral thesis, offers ‘a comprehensive assessment of the rules of customary international law relating to immunity of heads of state and other state officials in the context of crimes pursuant to international law’, according to the publisher. The book costs $US232 ($A329).
