A new monthly market in Lismore with a focus on sustainability will be held for the first time this Saturday.

The Lismore Recycled Market will be held on the third Saturday of every month next door to the Lismore Revolve Shop, which is located within the Lismore Recycling and Recovery Centre on Wyrallah Road.

The council’s waste education officer Danielle Hanigan said stallholders would be selling goods made from recycled materials out of shipping containers that have been purpose-built.

Stalls will feature items including furniture, household goods, fashion, jewellery, art and sculpture.

‘We have a lot of customers who visit the Revolve Shop on Saturday,’  Ms Hanigan said.

‘We wanted to build on that and create an event that celebrates sustainability and showcases some of the really interesting things local people are making with materials that would normally go to waste.

‘A lot of what we see coming through the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre is still in excellent condition… in fact, many things are hardly used.

‘If someone can repurpose those goods and create something new, it’s keeping it out of landfill.’

The inaugural Lismore Recycled Market runs from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, 19 March and includes live music, fun for kids, food vans and a coffee stall. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.
