Police are appealing for public assistance after several reports of women being sexually assaulted in Byron Bay.
Between November 2015 and May 2016, women using the walking track along Lighthouse Road have been approached.
Police have been told the women were walking past bushland near the intersection of Brooke Drive and Lighthouse Road when they were approached by a man who touched them inappropriately.
Detectives from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command have launched an investigation and are urging anyone else who may have been approached or any witnesses to come forward.
Investigators would also like to speak with a man of Caucasian appearance, aged between 20 and 30-years-old, and of a thin build. He has previously been seen wearing long shorts or board shorts, and not wearing a shirt or having a shirt wrapped around his head.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Byron Bay Police Station on (02) 6685 9499 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page. Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
How come we are only hearing about this now? This has been going on since November, thus putting more women at risk?
