An exhibition of works by master wood craftsman Geoff Hannah and his students will be opened by Federal Arts Minister Mitch Fifield at the Lismore Regional Gallery this evening.

The exhibition opens at 5.50pm. Speeches will begin at 6pm.

Mr Hannah is a Lismore-based master wood craftsman and cabinet-maker.

The Hannah Cabinet exhibited in 2009, proved to be one of the most popular exhibitions in the history of the Lismore gallery.

This exhibition, In Glue and Dust we Trust, will be the first outing for Geoff Hannah’s latest work, Chinoiserie Cabinet, which will be shown alongside the work of his students, some of whom have been doing classes with Geoff for over 15 years.

Minister Fifield said Lismore had  demonstrated its commitment to creating a flourishing arts sector and support for local talent.

‘Mr Hannah’s work is remarkable, and I applaud his dedication and commitment to sharing his knowledge and experience with his students,’ Minister Fifield said.

Page MP Kevin Hogan also congratulated the Lismore Regional Gallery for supporting and promoting the talents of local artists, and welcomed the development of a new cultural precinct for the City of Lismore through the Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund.

‘The Lismore Quadrangle project will offer a range of cultural initiatives for the Northern Rivers community, including projects for people with disability, young people and Indigenous artists,’ Mr Hogan said.

‘The Lismore Regional Gallery, Arts Northern Rivers and Co-op Bookshop will all move to the new precinct, which also includes a community green space and gathering site.’

The exhibition will feature works by Geoff Hannah, Colin Fardon, Barbara Riordan, Jan Page, Sue Egan, Ted Slattery, Jade Hughes, Lucille Stace, Rick Stewart, Sally Bates, Brian Emery, Darren Shaw, Rob Hurford, Brian Henry, John Whitaker, Greg Foster, Paul Armour, Francesco Stassi, Daniel Prentice, Gary Shallala-Hudson, Paul Laird, Wendy Laird, Paul Frangos, David Gilmore

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
