Over the years the judges of the Simple Pleasures Photo Competition have seen more sunsets than a summer of Sundays so it was bound to happen that one year one would win – 2016 is that year.

Reflecting Into Another World was the only frame taken by Paula May Humphries on her Nikon D610 after a disappointing result at Brunswick Heads. ‘I was in the right place at the right time’, she says.

‘I originally went down to the beach to take photos of the sunset but there were too many people about to get the right shot. So I started walking back to town and I saw the sunset reflecting on the water and had to stop to get a shot!’

Paula’s photo won her both the People’s Choice award and the overall competition prize, which were awarded during a ceremony at the Bruns Bowlo on Sunday.

Paula’s shot was one of over 150 entered into this year’s comp, the standard of which was particularly high. Categories winners were: School – Sam Pfeil; Children – Jayalilly Haim; Youth – Keshava Prema Head; Adult – Daniela Andre and the Mayor’s Choice – Shey Ivanov.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
