Lismore detectives are hoping the public can help track down the family of a World War II soldier whose ‘Soldier’s Record of Service’ book was found among stolen items last month.
The book was among other items police seized when they executed a search warrant in Nimbin on 7 October.
An offender was charged and most of the stolen items have been returned to their owners, but police have not been able to locate the family of Richard Slee from Broken Hill.
The record book shows that Mr Slee, who was born on 21 March 1906, was a ‘wool expert’ before enlisting with the Australian military on 8 June, 1940, with the rank of lieutenant.
‘Police have made numerous inquiries on the police database, Australian Army and the War Memorial, but they cannot locate the owner’s family,’ police said in a statement.
If you can help police reunite this property with the family of Richard Slee please contact Lismore detectives on 02 6626 0599. The police reference number for the case is E232860496.
