Mandy Nolan’s Soapbox: Shopping Centres Scare Me

I feel trapped. There isn’t a single time I attend where I don’t check my proximity to the exits, or imagine what I’d do if there was a fire, or worse, a shooter. The sense of being enclosed is unnatural, I can’t tell what time of day it is, I lose my sense of direction. It’s designed to be disorienting. It feels otherworldly. And never in a good way. They are designed to make you stay longer. They are by design, disorienting.

The Junior Beez took a swarm to Coffs Harbour to compete in the Annual Bellinger Braves Pacific Challenge where the U/13 boys’ team brought home a trophy for the Bay.

A big congratulations to all the players, coach Alvin  Caoyonan and support crew for thier effort last weekend.

U/13 boys and girls, and U/15 boys and girls teams battled it out throughout the very heated weekend, playing a total of 22 games between them.

They played against Bellinger Valley, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Ipswich,  Taree, Brisbane Spartans and Gloucester.

The Junior Committee and coaches, Nash Campbell, Matt Ogle and Alvin, are very proud of these teams and their efforts.

The players showed their passion, skills and commitment for the game of basketball and the Beez during this weekend.

This level of competition is a step leading up to the 2017 Northern Junior League Competition in which Byron Beez will be competing.

The 2017 Representative Squad Trials for U/12s through to U/18s will be held this week.

The Girls will be held this Friday December 9, 4.30–6pm at the Cavanbah Centre, and the Boys this Saturday December 10, 1.30–3.30pm.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
