Fast Buck$, Coorabell.

I was intrigued to read the (Byron) mayor’s extensive and self-indulgent putdowns of Cr Tabart. Simon says that Cr Tabart never presented any evidence to back up his criticisms.

However, there are none so blind as those who will not see, and if you read between the lines you will notice he mentions things which might bring him into conflict with the staff, lest ‘doors be closed on me’.

This is in stark contrast to the outspoken Jan Barham, who got such a bad vibe from the senior staff that for the last few months of her tenure she only went to the council chambers when she absolutely had to. That’s what happens if you don’t automatically respect the senior staff as Simon does. At least she emerged with her integrity intact.

I offer Simon a challenge: select any council meeting agenda of the last five years and I will show you at least one item where the senior staff have presented information selectively so that Council will vote in favour of influential vested interests – such as Splendour and the holiday-letting industry.

I don’t know why Simon feels that it’s his job to protect the staff.

It’s one thing to personally refrain from criticism but quite another to close down others who don’t agree with him.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. A point in time: In respect to the Special Rate Variation before Council next Thursday, my 9 page substantial submission has been reduced to 3 sentences.

Manyy of my suggestions for raising funds have been ignored in Councils comment section, such as a Festival visitor contribution, further asset sales, savings in running Councils Caravan Parks, especially First Sun, whose annual runningcost have increased by 250,000 per year, without increased revenue, and other ways of reducing the infrastructure backlog.

All the letters to the editor have been ‘balanced’ with Articles from staff or Mayor/ former Councillors.

This is not an informed debate. Who’s vested interests are being served?

  2. Fast Buck$, begins:
“I was intrigued to read …” how intriguing as we read what Fast Buck$ wrote as he read what Simon wrote.
But for his second sentence he begins “Simon says that Cr Tabard …” when Simon is writing and not stating as in “voice’. The sentence has to be “Simon writes…”.
Opps. That is a putdown of the great Fast Buck$.
