Rainbow Region Dragon Boat Club was one of 22 clubs that raced at the first regatta of 2017 at Broadwater on the Gold Coast.

In blistering conditions, the Rainbow Dragons raced in the hotly contested Women’s 10s division against 15 other teams and won all their heats before placing 4th in the finals.

The club’s Mixed-20 team with three men and 17 women performed strongly, too. They were up against other crews with 10 men and 10 women so they managed a respectable third place, in both their heats.

A total of three clubs made the trip north from the northern rivers.

The Rainbow Dragons started 2017 at their Lake Ainsworth base with demanding training for the Broadwater regatta and also got a new (secondhand) boat back in working order to bring their fleet to three boats.

Club members have also been undergoing individualised motivational training development by the Club’s experienced coaches.

This Sunday February 19, the Rainbow Dragons are holding their ‘Come and Try’ day where all comers are welcome to get on the water and learn about dragon boating.

It’s about becoming and keeping fit, making new friends and having fun.

Venue: Sport & Recreation boat shed via Camp Drew Rd, Lake Ainsworth. (Monica: 0408 776 171)

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
