Recognising the need of locals who have suffered from the recent cyclone Debbie the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay held a fundraiser last Sunday afternoon. Over 1300 locals came and raised funds for flood victims in the Shire.
From 3pm till close, door donations, raffles, proceeds from Stone and Wood beers sales as well as Beachy bar staff donating their tips totalled $6,486.
Beach Hotel topped this up with another $5000 bringing the total donation to $11,486.
The money raised will go to local flood victims via the Mullumbimby and District Neighbourhood Centre (MNDC) that is connecting the Byron Shire community.
‘I’m speechless,’ said Julie Williams manager of the MDNC.
‘I’m still reeling from the lack of commonwealth support to the people of Byron Shire who have been so hard hit.
‘It’s wonderful that now we’ll be able to assist people with some big ticket items that we haven’t been able to before.’
The Beach Hotel would like to thank the local community for their support and generosity.
