Hailing the Cetacean Nation

Carol Page In 1963 an American doctor, John Lilly, conceived the idea for a Cetacean Nation, recognising that dolphins have minds, language and citizenship, equal in importance to humans. In 2003, Scott Taylor of Possum Creek, formerly of Santa Fe, New Mexico, intends to turn the concept into a reality. After 20 years of work in the field of cetacean-human studies, ten years of research and three years of writing, he has created a new meta-view of the subject, which he shares in his new book, Souls in the Sea: Dolphins, Whales and Human Destiny. The book includes legends, myths, ancient history, scientific fact, personal stories and attempts to define the unique status of dolphins and whales as having souls not unlike our own. It was the Legend of the Golden Dolphin in 1983 that changed Scott's life, unveiling to him, `the esoteric mystery that showed the influence whales and dolphins have had over the development of humans and human culture'. The legend tells of our relationship with dolphins and

water, the global environment and lead us to care for the highly evolved people of the sea.
