In that same year The Northern Rivers Chamber Orchestra was formed players some senior but mostly students. Today, some ten years later, three of the original orchestra members still remain, conductor Barry Singh, violinist Heather Malcolm and Lyn McBurney. In the orchestra became a symphony orchestra of between and players. To celebrate ten years they will play two entirely different concerts, this Sunday from 2pm at Seagulls and next Sunday November . Enquiries to Bruce .Get my DriftAfter something warm and Gurry Well my plushofile, look no further than Spindrift, fronted by the Gurry siblings, this band is a combination of almost all popular music styles, though the best way to describe this outfit is contemporary roots. I know a few people who could be described that way Having spent most of touring Europe with their high energy and big sound, Spindrift have returned home in putting the dizzy on venues and festivals throughout Australia. They have managed to fit in some studio time with their demanding tour schedule and are happy to announce the birth of their new single Oak Tree at the Canberra Hotel in Lismore on Thursday, Lennox Point Hotel on Friday, The Hotel Great Northern on Saturday and The Shaws Hotel in Ballina on Sunday.Great GeorgePennyblack perform at the Rails in Byron Bay on Saturday.because weve learnt a lot over the last few years. Sunk Loto play the Ballina Hotel on Thursday November and the Surfers Paradise Beer Garden on Friday . Check the gig guide page for giveaways It may have taken George six years to release their first album, but when they did they made history. Polyserena rocketed to the number one position on the national ARIA charts in its first week, becoming only the tenth AustralianTequila MockingbirdTequila Sunrise formerly known as Brown Sugar deliver infectious music that is a combination of hypnotic rhythms and sweet choral harmonies that illustrate this outfits musical scope. This, together with a strong visual presence, captivates audiences with the awesome sound and sheer atmosphere created by Mr and Mrs Groove Master. There is the added dimension of male and female lead vocals which completes the yin and yang of r and b. They are at the Brunswick Hotel on Friday.Dont step on my Blue Suede SanchezSanchez are a new five piece band, featuring the boys from the Garnoff Bros with friends. Its kind of like a big musos sleepover where the boys kick around with some cheeky little numbers, do the odd spot of mooning and a great deal of crooning. Sanchez will be kicking off their summer run at the Mullumbimby Hotel on Friday.Willing and AbleIf you like a bit of country crossover, kind of a vaudevillian casserole of post punk pop with some metal edged calamity from Jimmy Little, the bloke Tim Freedman picked up for a bit of a spin on his last tour, then make contact with Jimmy Willing and the Real Gone Hick Ups. Mr Willing is the face of alternative culture here on the north coast, kind of like our very own version of Nick Cave, kicking around Kyogle and beyond, channelling the dark forces for everyday main courses. Jimmy Willing and the Real Gone Hick Ups perform with The Railroaders and Mick Daley at the Gollan Hotel in Lismore on Thursday.Jimmy Willing appears with the Real Gone Hick Ups at Lismores Gollan Hotel on Thursday.band to do so with a debut album. Within ten days Polyserena had been certified gold , copies and was still selling strongly. Three weeks later, the album had gone platinum , copies. Thats not bad by anybodys standards, but when you consider the group only formed in order to have some fun and enter a university band competition in , the achievement is even more astounding. These days of course theres not much time for clowning around George is in constant demand. They play Twin Towns Services Club on Thursday November .Isabella A Capella warming up the vocals at Lismores Uniting Church Hall and Ocean Shores Community Centre on Sunday.Lotos LifeThree years is a long time in any mans language. In the rock and roll world its a lifetime. In a game where yesterdays cutting edge is tomorrows clich, taking a seat on the sideline could so easily be the end of a bands career or the beginning of a whole new one. For Sunk Loto, album number two is definitely a rebirth. Delivered some three years after their debut Big Picture Lies, the Gold Coast quartets sophomore release Between Birth and Death is a mindblowing display of power, a passionate outpouring that is a testament to the virtue of patience. The outside world may have been wondering what Sunk Loto have been doing for the past three years, but the band were never in any doubt. We were really focused on finding our own unique sound for this record, explains frontman Jason Brown. And that meant we had to find something fresh, and then really perfect it. Looking back, we can see how much weve changed,Fringe DwellersOne of my favourite things about the north coast is the still life of hills. Our quiet country folk aint that quiet around here, with halls aplenty popping up amid dell and dale. After a good half an hour drive out from Byron Bay into the hills, one reaches deep Main Arm. Its a bit spooky. I thought, what if someone breaks into my car and tries to hug me It seems so quiet, then one rounds the corner and there she is, Kohinur Hall, the supermodel amongst country halls. Wide verandahs, high ceilings, a generous stage, sprung floor, pool tables, expansive bar area and a vista which spills into the forest. Hot local band Bohemian Fringe will be performing funky folk-rock with soul as part of the Kohinur Hall Restoration Project on Saturday. Bohemian Fringe have built from strength to strength, recording material for their upcoming album and currently producing a video clip single from the album. Also playing will be My Favourite Colour. Starts 7.pm, 8 at the door.Sexy yourself up for Bay FMShifting to the new studio The Quantum Leap is the sexiest move ever. Foreplay is long and complex but the climax is coming.
