McGrath, who has been competing in the World Qualifying Series for the past few years, originally missed out on qualification for the WCT. Her performance at last weekends Roxy Pro at Phillip Island was her last chance to make it to the WCT via the wildcard route. In an extraordinary four girl surf-off for the one re-maining position on the World Championship Surfing Tour, Laurina won through to the final, then defeated the very experienced Serena Brooke from Queensland, French surfer Marie Peirre Agrail and Wollongongs Kate Skarrett. This is the greatest day of my life, said McGrath after the event. To qualify for the World Championship Tour is amazing. I injured my medial ligament last season in Hawaii and its been a dificult months, but now Im right. I cant wait for the RoxyPro on the Gold Coast. Its a dream come true. Laurinas next major event will be the Roxy Pro World Championship Tour Event on the Gold Coast in early March. She will be competing with season pro Pauline Menczer from Ocean Shores who opened her competitive season with a strong third placing in the Roxy Pro WQS event. Amazingly enough no major sponsor has yet signed up McGrath, so if you are interested you better be quick.
