Sport, sex, surf, stuff

As you would expect in Byron Shire, diversity was the theme last week. The new sports complex off Ewingsdale Road was officially opened and tantra was declared the new black at the Sex and Consciousness Festival in Byron Bay, and Mullum library went wild on Friday with a flashmob reading binge out the front. This coming weekend the Spirit Festival hits Mullum, picking up a little tantra on the way, and the Splendour fest is scheduled to return to its spawning ground at Belongil Fields. And we haven’t even made it to the beach yet! There’s so much going on we’ve had to cram in the news with coconut oil and a crowbar.

How much crossover was there between gig crowds, do you think? Did anyone have a good feel of the sprint track at West Byron and then dash off to Tantraville for a feel of a different kind? After indulging in a little Pride And Prejudice at Mullum library did any keen readers mark down the ‘Cuddle Tent’ for this coming Friday? Could we save on resources with a mash-up of all these events on one day of the year? Surely it wouldn’t be too hard to co-ordinate with all the talented co-creators we have in this Shire? I think Friday October 5 is free and it would provide a little release on the heels of the council elections. The 200m Tantric Dash Chess Writers Vodka Ball Moshpit Cuddle Festival makes good sense.

The Shire is awash with ecstasy and conjoined fluids. There must be tourism potential we can harness here. Bugger eco-tourism, backpacker tourism, schoolies tourism, high-tech tourism, yoga tourism. Tap firmly into the heightened consciousness market from a distance. Avoid potholes in our infrastructure and the back alleys of our comfort by having these cool people strap on the virtual reality gear in their own loungerooms and join us in a multi-orgasmic celebration in cyberspace, where the workshop never ends. Then Byron, and the rest of the world, will be truly United.
