The Byron Bay Schoolies HUB is going to be full of well-educated Volunteers this year, with free training planned for at least 50 of the Volunteers.

With a Volunteers Grant from Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) to train 30 volunteers in Youth Mental Health First Aid and a generous donation from Darren Pearson from The Cellars liquor stores in Byron to run Apply First Aid training (formerly Senior First Aid) for 20 volunteers, all possible scenarios for assistance to the visiting school leavers should be covered.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid training is a 2-day course and will take place over two consecutive Mondays, October 31 and November 7. The Apply First Aid training is on Monday November 14. Both courses will be held at the Byron Youth Activities Centre.

To be eligible for any of the free training, volunteers must register by October 28.

The Byron Schoolies HUB is a large marquee supplied by Byron Shire Council and placed in Main Beach Park for the duration of the celebrations. The HUB will be open 24/7 for the 18 days of School Leavers Celebrations from the November 18 until the December 5. Volunteers will be rostered on for shifts of 4 hours around the clock.

Registration forms must be filled in and can be collected from the Byron Youth Service offices in the Youth Activities Centre (YAC) 1 Gilmore Crescent between 10am-4pm Monday to Friday.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
