Police have appealed for information after a man sustained significant abdominal injuries at Lismore Base Hospital on the weekend.

The 36-year-old man sustained the injuries on Saturday and he is currently in serious but stable condition in the hospital.

But police are at a loss to explain how the man, who apparently was in the hospital at the time, became injured.

While they don’t have definite information that an altercation did happen, they are investigating the possibility, a police spokesperson told Echonetdaily.

‘The circumstances around the injuries were ‘odd, to say the least,’ he said.

‘The injured person is not in a condition to talk at the moment,’ he added.

Anyone with information about the baffling incident is urged to contact Lismore LAC or Crime Stoppers on 1 800 333 000.
