Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter General Manager Kris Beavis has issued a warning that people in the area have been receiving calls from telemarketers claiming to be from the helicopter.
Several people have contacted the Lismore Helibase to say they have received calls saying they are from the helicopter and asking questions about the person’s income.
Mr Beavis said these calls are not coming from the helicopter service and the calls are a scam.
He condemned the actions of the scammers and urged people not to provide details to the callers.
‘We do not conduct telemarketing campaigns and condemn the actions of these people.
‘These phone calls should be ignored and reported to us or the authorities,’ Mr. Beavis said.
‘It is worrying that the callers would not only pretend to be calling on our behalf but also asking for personal information. We urge people not to give out any details and to hang up on these callers.’
Mr Beavis said that the helicopter service greatly values the tremendous support it receives from the business and community sectors in Northern NSW.
’We have a very good relationship with our community, and the implication of these actions can be quite damaging to that trust.’
‘Our supporters are part of the helicopter community in Northern NSW and we keep in touch with them regularly through newsletters and online and any information from our donors is treated in the strictest of confidence.’
If you receive a call from a telemarketer indicating they are representing the helicopter service and want to let us know please phone the Lismore Helibase on 6627 4444.
