On Saturday a boat capsized crossing the Ballina bar tipping five people into the water. The passengers, who were all wearing life jackets, clung to the boat until they were retrieved by the Far North Coast Jet Rescue Boat.
The situation repeated itself on Sunday morning when another man was rescued after his tinny overturned. He was also wearing a life jacket and was rescued without incident.
Recreational boaties are being reminded of the danger of river bars even on apparently calm days.
