Limiting major outdoor music events to two per year is appropriate for Byron Shire. It allows the continuation of two popular events while preventing the negative impacts of further mega events. Council’s policy amendment will not have an impact on small-scale music events, nor will it have an impact on non-music events. This amendment is not in any way anti-tourist, anti-business, or anti-music, as many critics have maintained. The restrictions are reasonable, especially given that they reflect BSC’s Events Policy of 2010, which was put in place after thorough community consultation.
