President Obama – married, a father, a churchgoer and president of the most religious nation in the western world – has now very graciously ‘evolved’ to accept gay marriage as a human right.

Without expecting a tandem turn by our own PM – unmarried, atheist, and leader of a mostly sceptical and irreligious mob – it would be rather nice to get from her a compelling reason other than personal sentiment as to why she still opposes marriage equality.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. 1 COMMENT

  1. Despite being completely unopposed to same-sex relationships, the idea that marriage can be anything other than a sacred union of a man with a woman is ludicrous. Call it a civil union if you must, or a ball-and-chain if you are realistic, but marriage by definition cannot apply to two people of the same sex. Marriage itself is little more than an invention veiled with threats of everlasting torment beyond the grave for any man unwilling to stick around and pay for the upkeep of the children he sired, all thanks to religious orders sick of showing charity by way of orphanages to poor women too silly to know that opening their legs was what kept creating so many ill-begotten little snots that now, thanks to contraception, are no longer such a burden to society. At least same-sex couples have the wisdom to know that their pleasure-buttons can be pushed without creating further burdens on society… so why oh why are they seeking to create further burdens upon themselves???
