Cr Longland has misrepresented me when he claimed, as quoted in the Bulletin, that ‘she doesn’t want any dams – ever’.
I said quite clearly that I would support the Clarrie Hall dam if it came down to it, but that council reports, so far, have not yet convinced me that either dam is necessary.
I also pointed out that the council is actually in the process of commissioning an independent review so surely we should wait for that.
My concern is that there was no analysis in the council reports on whether it’s possible to avoid dam building, or if we could achieve this with the major new developments. This concern has also been reinforced by the preliminary review already undertaken independently by Geolink Consulting.
It’s not about Byrrill Ck or Clarrie Hall dam at this stage; it’s about maximising water conservation in new developments, which unfortunately not one of these current councillors seems to be interested in.
