War The Bloody Hell Are You?

When faced with potential conflict, why are we abandoning the strategy that’s worked in the past for one that will definitely fail?

Gil Crespy needs to do some thinking outside the box, and some research (Letters, June 12). Julian Assange: 1. stayed on in Sweden in an unsuccessful attempt to be questioned over these sexual assault allegations (he has not been charged); 2. has consistently and continually offered to be questioned by video link / via the Metropolitan Police in London (or by any other practical method) since his return to the UK – these attempts have been refused; 3. has spent more than 500 days under house arrest, without charge, and without any assistance whatsoever from the Australian government; 4. Is a fearless whistleblower who has done more than anybody in recent times to expose the brutal machinations of, in particular, the US government.

Conclusion? These allegations are a cynical setup designed to facilitate the extradition of Julian Assange to the US from Sweden, to face retribution for revealing the truth. Wake up!

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Yes, I agree. Blind Freddy and his dog can see what’s afoot. Apart from the unusual circumstances allowing the Swedish Prosecutor to issue an extradition warrant to extradite him from the UK, the likelihood of him being ‘rendered’ to the US is almost guaranteed, as happens with real terrorists.
