John Sternberg, sought in NT in relation to the murder of a Broadwater man.

An arrest warrant was issued yesterday in relation to an alleged murder after 54-year-old Edward ‘Ned’ Kelly was found dead in his River Street, Broadwater home last Thursday.

Police have issued the warrant for 46-year-old Jonathon Stenberg, who they believe is in the Northern Territory.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad are investigating the incident under Strike Force Fitzsimon and have been working in conjunction with Queensland and Northern Territory Police to locate him.

Police have seized an abandoned vehicle about 50 kilometres south of Darwin that they believe was driven by Stenberg. A search of the surrounding area is underway.

Stenberg is of Caucasian appearance, about 168cm tall, of solid build, and with brown hair and brown eyes.

A Sydney newspaper claimed on the weekend that Mr Kelly was found decapitated and that his head was missing. Police have declined to confirm or deny the allegation.

Anyone who sees Stenberg is urged not to approach him, as he may be armed. Instead, immediately contact Triple Zero (000) or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
