Byron Bay surfers have queried why a meeting about safety issues at The Pass is not open to the public.
Roads and Maritime Services have asked Reliance Risk to conduct a safety assessment of the renowned surfing spot because of the ongoing community concerns.
Representatives of local surfing, boating and fishing groups have been invited to a meeting to discuss the issue. But the time, date and location of the meeting have not been advertised and some beach users are unhappy about it.
One local surfer, Ben Bennink, told APN media it should be an open forum, while longtime Pass surfer Max Smith said there needed to be greater awareness of the presence of dive boats, especially amongst rookie surfers.
