I read recently that the Byron police had requested the Liquor Accord to close at 1am during the forthcoming Splendour number.

According to the report, the Liquor Accord refused. Is there something wrong with this picture? The police have to ask the Accord for consent to an earlier closedown ?

Surely the events in Kings Cross should be an injunction for safety across the state. Alcohol-fueled violence can be greatly reduced by earlier closing times.

Then again, money seems to rule these days.
