Imagine a town like Byron Bay without a multiplex cinema – a town with lots of young people, holidaymakers, film lovers, opera lovers, film-festivalgoers, and organisations like Screenworks which present premiere screenings of Australian films with guest speakers.
Dendy Byron is a vital part of our community, an employer of lots of young people, a provider of a safe entertainment environment, a great partner and probably the only place where audiences can always have a good time without alcohol being involved. ‘So they pulled down Dendy and put up a bottle shop…’ (apologies to Joni). The question is, should we just sit back and accept this decision?
