Is there a ‘shadow government’?

Accepting I may be behind the eight ball on this, I just read an interesting thing on something called the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement. I can’t figure out if it’s the grandest of grand conspiracy theories or real.

In short it is allegedly a rather secretive effort by international – largely US- and European-based – corporates and compliant politicians to create what is effectively a shadow government masquerading as transnational governance of trade policy. It will force democratically elected governments to do what they’re told by a corporate cabal or risk economic annihilation.

While the web-based warnings seem to be from legitimate sources, creating that effect is not hard to do. And, of course, by the very nature of current global media control those involved in the TPP, if it’s for real, would include media interests that control the mainstream media in Australia, thus the lack of reporting.

I have to give the concept some credence as the current corporate/financial system centred on the US and western Europe, which does control the world’s economy, is clearly collapsing with no obvious successor and no clear path of transition. It is always the last act of the despot that is the bloodiest, most violent, oppressive and desperate – the last grasp for power.

I don’t know what to think. If it is real be very afraid; if it’s not, some people’s imaginations are spectacular. I’d be interested to see something on this and from sources other than the usual online suspects. Is it real?
