Farmers are polishing their boots in anticipation of Lismore’s annual agricultural show, the North Coast National, which kicks off today.

Top of the bill is the Young Farmers’ Challenge, which starts at 6pm in the main arena.

Those who like a bit less mud on their boots can still enjoy the night at the Dolphin Awards Showcase Under the Stars music stage from 6 to 10.30pm

Other events in the main arena include:

6.45pm – Official Opening with special guests federal MP Janelle Saffin and Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell.

7pm – Showgirl winner announced, followed by Hooves of Thunder, Lismore’s own outback spectacular musical ride comprising 16 horse-and-rider combinations performing intricate fast choreographed moves to music.

7.40pm – Crack Up Sisters – fast quips and faster whips!

7.50pm – Elijay Freestyle Motocross – will be busting out vertical wheelies, 180s, side hops, front gaps, nose wheelies, body jumping, splats and much more.

8.10pm – The Magnificent Monster Trucks

8.30pm – Family fireworks
