Dry July to help you and Our House

In July 2008, three mates, Brett, Kenny and Phil, wanted to take a break from alcohol, so decided to abstain for the month of July, coining it their 'Dry July'.

Standup comedians Mandy Nolan and Nick Penn get the gags cracking for a special two-hour Christmas Comedy Show at the Bangalow Bowlo.

Nolan and Penn make the yin and yang of comedy. Where she’s a potty-mouthed mama, his set is clean. Where Penn is master of the one-liner and the masterful punchline, Nolan conquers the comedic story with brash aplomb.

The two comedians have spent the good part of 2012 touring clubs, pubs and automobiles, playing off the circuit rooms to packed houses.

‘Audiences have been leaving saying it’s one of the best comedy shows they’ve been to,’ says Nolan of her and Penn’s double-header.

‘I open the night with the first hour. I rarely do full shows around here as I do so much MC work so it’s really great being able to stretch my legs and really put on a feature set like I do when I head out of the area.’

Nolan, author of What I Would Do If I Were You, was declared by Sydney Morning Herald’s Bruce Elder as one of the wittiest comedic columnists in the country. Dry-witted Nick Penn talks about growing up tough. He’s the archetypal Aussie Battler, with a keen eye on the nuances of Aussie culture.

Calm under fire, Penn is the quintessential bloke next door, as charming and loveable as Nolan.

Enjoy the feature shows of these two headline comics at the Bangalow Bowlo in a two-course dinner show on Saturday. With doors opening at 6pm, meals served from 6.45pm and show at 8pm, this is certain to be a cracker of a night! Tickets for show and meal are $35. Bookings on 6687 2742. www.bangalowbowlo.com.au. Doors 6pm. Show 8pm.

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
