The gods of rain played nice on the weekend and the Ballina race meet went ahead in fairly dry conditions. The track was Dead(4) and with a seven-race card, the horses were ready to rumble.

Raymond Spokes had a good day riding Forrester third in the first, Deebee Cooper first in the fifth, Raydar’s Girl third in the sixth and Save a Buck first in the seventh. Other winners on the day were Anton En Avant ridden (1st) and Kyspeil (4th) ridden by Cassandra Schmidt, Carry the Drinks (2nd) ridden by Laura Cheshire, Hidden Shuffle (3rd) ridden by Bradley Appo and For Kings I Dance (7th) ridden by Masa Haga.

None of the trainers managed more than one win at the meeting with first place in order going to Stephen Lee, Kelly Purdy, Pat Duff, Greg Kilner, Neil Creighton, Brett Bellamy and Trevor Hardy.

The next race day for Ballina will be Boxing Day and races locally this week are on at Murwillumbah on Friday.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
