The NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Bradley McGee OAM as head coach of the NSWIS Cycling Program.

McGee joins the program after an illustrious career as an NSWIS scholarship holder, in which he won Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold, before success as a directeur sportif for Saxo Bank-SunGard on the professional circuit in Europe.

McGee, a member of the NSWIS Most Outstanding for his success in and out of the sporting arena, will spend his first month in an observational role; introducing and establishing lines of communication with key stakeholders including national and state sporting organisations, clubs, coaches, athletes, support staff and the cycling community.

McGee’s observational role will assist him to develop an understanding of the current structures and programs in cycling in NSW and nationally, while allowing state teams coaches to continue their work with athletes in the lead-up to, and during, the national championships in January. The NSWIS and Cycling NSW will work cooperatively to ensure NSWIS cyclists are well supported through the transition period.

‘I feel humbled by the confidence placed in me by the Institute, and I’m motivated by the challenge ahead,’ McGee said of his appointment. ‘It’s a role that brings with it a huge level of responsibility, and I know from my experience as a scholarship holder that a high level of professionalism will be required.

‘I’m looking forward to applying my experience, developing new skills and creating a solid platform for our athletes to perform, and continue to perform, at the highest level.’

NSWIS chief executive Charles Turner believes McGee will be instrumental in the ongoing success of the NSWIS Cycling Program.

‘Appointing Bradley to the role of head coach emphasises the Institute’s commitment to quality coaching. Bradley was heavily involved with the program during his time as an NSWIS scholarship holder, and we are confident that his experience and skills will successfully guide the program towards Rio 2016 and beyond.’
