Police are appealing for information after a gang knocked a man to the ground in Byron Bay in the early hours of Saturday morning, then fled while he lay there unconscious.
About 2.10am on Saturday, a 32-year-old man was walking along Jonson Street when he became involved in a verbal argument with a gang of men.
The men knocked him to the ground and one of them kicked him in the head. While he lay unconscious, the gang fled the scene.
Emergency services were contacted and police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command conducted a patrol of the area but failed to find the gang.
The injured man was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition with a fractured jaw and other facial injuries.
Police are appealing for public assistance to identify the men involved. One of the males is described as wearing jeans, a white shirt and laceup-style boots.
