A man has died after being struck by a Kombi van on the Pacific Highway just north of Byron Bay interchange shortly before 9 o’clock last night.
The female driver of the van stopped to render assistance to the 19-year-old pedestrian but the man died before emergency services arrived.
Officers attached to Tweed-Byron Local Area Command have commenced an investigation into the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
The driver is currently assisting police with their inquiries and has undergone mandatory blood and urine tests.
The Pacific Highway was partially closed for some hours after the incident, causing considerable delays to traffic.
