A seasoned bard

Guy Kachel had an idyllic entry to the world of music. Born in Tamworth, he was raised on the banks of the Peel River. The landscape was a fertile ground for his imagination. Seeing this rustic world change, as Tamworth developed into an inland city and friends grew to sometimes troubled adulthoods, provided insights for the artistry that later powered his career as a performer.

In a bizarre series of events, police were called into action twice in just an hour at the normally sleepy coastal town of Woolgoolga yesterday.

They are preparing a report for the Coroner after the body of a man was found near the Woolgoolga headland yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to the beach about 4.30pm after bystanders reported a body on the water’s edge.

The body was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for a post mortem examination.

Police say that during the incident an argument broke out between two men at the beach, which continued after they left in separate cars.

At about 5.30pm, police were called to Darkun Road at nearby Mullaway Bay after reports of shots being fired.

Police said the two vehicles stopped side by side and a further argument took place before the gun attack.

Police and ambulance arrived to find an injured 35-year-old man with gun shot wounds to the right side of his head.

They say the offender was known to the victim, who has been taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for further treatment.
