Detectives from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command are appealing for public assistance after a teenager was assaulted at Brunswick Heads on Saturday.
About 10.40am a 17-year-old boy was hitchhiking along Tweed Street when he got into a car that stopped for him.
He was seated in the front passenger seat when the driver allegedly assaulted him. The boy was able to get out of the car near the corner of Orana Rd and Tathra Glen, before he contacted police. He was not injured as a result of the incident.
Investigators are appealing for public assistance to identify a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.
He is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 60 years old with a large build and straight grey hair. He had freckles and a mole on his face.
He was wearing a black t-shirt with white stripes on the left shoulder, and white boardshorts.
The vehicle is described as a relatively new, dark-coloured Mercedes sedan.
