Sapoty Brook, Mullumbimby

There is something ludicrous about people who are, supposedly, deeply opposed to the existing system taking a position which supports the sales base of the biggest and most polluting multinational (fossil fuel) companies on the planet.

There are those who think it’s all about money: ‘the AGW get rich scam’. There are those who think it’s all about power: ‘the AGW power grab’.

However, when those political issues are confounded with the denial of observed facts and deep scientific analysis, then the proposition becomes laughable.

Let’s not get lost in subjective perceptions. The sun does not rise because the rooster crows. While it is natural for humans to long for simplicity and clarity, we must take care not to allow that need to overwhelm our observation of a complex reality.

The industrial release of additional carbon dioxide into the atmosphere from buried sources of carbon began decades before John D Rockefeller, the Fed, or Al Gore. Also, inane statements about CO2 being non-toxic completely miss the point. The radiative and thermal physics and atmospheric dynamics are very clearly understood. Heating is inexorable, evaporation and melting inevitable; it is physics, and it is in our power to stop and reverse it, or continue goofing into global catastrophe.
