Helena Norberg-Hodge, Byron Bay
Like Susan de Groot Heupner (letters, February 27), we have been troubled by the ticket prices for our upcoming Economics of Happiness conference, and have been going over the figures in an attempt to make them more widely affordable. We would have loved the whole event to be completely free of charge but, even though some of the speakers are paying their own airfares, a conference like this costs real money that somehow has to be recouped.
The good news is that having covered most of our basic costs through the sale of full price tickets, we now have a very special offer: just $50 for two day passes (Saturday and Sunday). These tickets include all the plenary sessions via live video feed, plus access to the World Café and the full program of workshops (24 so far). I hope Susan and many like her will take the opportunity that these tickets provide. Come to the conference full of energy and ideas to share with an extraordinary array of prominent economists, bestselling authors and indigenous activists from more than a dozen different countries!
At a time when so many people are feeling despondent about the state of the world, this event will offer a coherent and hopeful vision for the future.
