What is your best memory growing up surfing? Dad driving me down to Aussie pipe every afternoon it broke! That’s my favorite wave still to this day.
Kids are learning airs now before they can do a roundhouse. If you were a coach would you advise them to work on rail to rail surfing first? I think a mixture of both is necessary these days because you have to be great at both. It’s hard to work on a round house because airs are so fun… There was a period when I was younger where all I did was airs for like a year!
Who do you look up to and how have they influenced your life? My sister Tyler has inspired me and shown me anything is possible! My parents gave up a lot to travel up and down the east coast driving us to surfing events.
Diet & Training
What kind of diet would you recommend for surfers? You can’t beat organic fresh produce or veges out of your own garden… Food that is less processed is best!
If you eat badly is it noticeable in your performance? Not straight away but over a few days with a lot of surfing… if I’m not keep up with my health and what I eat I get really tired and lethargic.
Do you drink, smoke or use drugs? Yeah I drink water and smoke competitors and I’m high on life, but if you’re talking about alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs you won’t find me near them. I like to be healthy and wake up for the early surf.
Tune in tomorrow for the final instalment….
