John Bennett, Possum Creek
As it is now obvious that the rail will not be reinstated we should make good use of the corridor as a rail track for cyclists, walkers and, hopefully, horse riders.
A rail track will provide new jobs and new business opportunities as has been proven elsewhere. It would bring in low-impact tourists and take pressure of our over-loved Byron Bay.
The route is even more scenic that the very successful Otago rail track.
This would also protect the rail corridor should it be feasible to bring back the rail line in the future.
Ummmm…. Can we get the potholes fixed first ?
John Bennett’s suggestion of turning the old rail easement into a bike/walking trail is a no-brainer, as the Americans say. I have been saying the same thing, privately, for more than a decade. How long will it take for councilors or whomever to get their act together enough to implement this simple, sensible & affordable idea?
