Students at Mount St Patricks Primary School in Murwillumbah, which was heavily impacted by this year’s floods will receive extra support following an $11,000 federal grant.
The money is part of funding announced yesterday by federal school education minister Peter Garrett, targeting students in 134 flood and fire affected communities across Australia.
Richmond MP Justine Elliot, welcomed the funding, which will provide chaplaincy and student welfare services to support students at Mount St Patricks Primary School.
‘This school has been seriously affected by floods so we’re making sure that students at Mount St Patricks Primary School get all the help they need to continue their studies and achieve their best,’ Ms Elliot said.
‘This funding means chaplains and student welfare workers will have more time available to support students in this school.’
Mr Garrett said the initiative will assist up to 74 schools in Queensland ($814,000), up to 26 schools each in New South Wales and Victoria ($286,000 each), and up to eight schools in Tasmania ($88,000).
