Police are preparing a report for the Coroner after the death of a man following an alleged assault near Lismore last month.
About 5.30am on Thursday 6 June 2013, police say a 29-year-old man was at home in Eggins Place, Goonellabah, with three other males, aged 53, 19 and 17, when an argument developed.
The groups separated but a short time later a brawl ensued in nearby Churchward Place.
It is believed that weapons, including a baseball bat, were possibly used during the incident.
At some point, two of the males are believed to have fallen from an embankment onto a hard surface about one metre below.
All parties then separated, but a short time later the 29-year-old man was found to have suffered head injuries.
He was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics and taken to Lismore Hospital. The 17-year-old male was also taken to hospital with bruising and a laceration to his chest.
About 9am last Wednesday (26 June), the 29-year-old man died at Gold Coast Hospital.
A post mortem examination was conducted and inquiries into the incident are continuing.
Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact Lismore Police or Crime Stoppers.
