Brilliantly masterminded by the PM and the Labor Party in that we have an agreement for any new refugee arrival to our shores to be automatically transferred to PNG [being a UN signatory to the UNHCR].
This is priceless to say the least. The LNP must agree to the policy and so too the Greens, as the refugees will be settled in an agreed UN refugee accepted country, being PNG.
As Rudd has mentioned to the ‘people smugglers: the game’s up, you’re out of business’. The message will rebound worldwide and will ensure Australia is not an easy target for asylum seeking.
The only question now, will we see an increase in refugees arriving on a visa to Australia by air and extending their time in this country illegally?
