Far North Coast

Five Far North Coast representative players have been selected to the 2013 NSW Country Rugby under-15s including Finn McElroy from Byron Bay who has been appointed team captain. Finn plays school rugby for Byron High and club rugby for Brunswick Valley. The Country under-15s team is coached by Stuart Lundie ex Lismore.

The country junior rugby squads are drawn from seven rugby zones from all around NSW except Sydney. They have development programs including rugby camps, training and matches. The under-15s’ schedule this year includes games against Sydney City and Victoria. In September they will travel to Queenstown New Zealand to compete against a South Island selection.

The NSW Country rugby under-15s North Coast also includes Corey Davies, Riley Wilson and Ben Schaefer from the Lennox Club and Kai Mangan from Wollongbar/Alstonville.

The Brunswick Valley under-15 rugby team ran out winners 26–12 winners at Lismore on Friday, the highlights were tries to Flynn Brown, Jordon Burton, Finn McElroy and Patrick Jones; three conversions by Zac Thomas; and a wonderful piece of play against four opponents by Cas Corbett to save a try. The Sticky Fingers man of the match was Jordon Burton.

This Friday the lads play their first games on the front field under the new lights against Wollongbar.

The under-15s kick-off at 6.30pm, the under-17s at 7.30pm.

All welcome.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
