Police have charged a man after an historic house was destroyed by fire at Myocum over the weekend.
About 12.20pm on Saturday (17 August), emergency services were called to a house fire on Benloro Lane.
The home was totally engulfed by flame and there were initial concerns that the resident/s could have been trapped.
The 100-year-old dwelling was completely destroyed by the time the fire was extinguished, five hours later.
Property damage is estimated at $650,000.
About 11.45am yesterday (21 August), investigators arrested an 18-year-old Myocum man at a hostel in Byron Bay.
He was taken to Byron Bay Police Station and later charged with malicious damage by fire.
The man was refused bail and will appear at Byron Bay Local Court today.
