The Rural Fire Service has announced a total fire ban for 24 hours from midnight.
The ban affects all council areas in our region: Ballina, Byron, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed. All coastal council areas as far south as Sydney are included and northern council areas west to Armidale.
No fires, including gas barbeques, may be lit in the open today and all fire permits are suspended.
A grass fire at Doubtful Creek was brought under control yesterday after burning out about 10 hectares.
