The WikiLeaks Party have done a deal that will betray progressive voters by preferencing the far-right Shooters Party, who are competing with the Greens candidate Cate Faehrmann for the last NSW senate spot.

In 2004 Labor did a similar preference deal with Family First in Victoria that saw Steve Fielding’s primary vote of two per cent rise to over 14 per cent, giving him a seat instead of the Greens candidate who had an eight per cent primary vote.

The outcomes of preference deals with micro-parties can be highly unpredictable.

That is why WikiLeaks’ decision to preference the Shooters Party is a monumental mistake and seriously risks electing a pro-gun senator whose sole agenda will be to placate the gun lobby and relax gun-control laws.

Progressive voters who care about issues like stopping coal seam gas mining, internet freedom, and including dental care under Medicare need to vote 1 for the Greens above the line in the senate.  Voting for the WikiLeaks Party will only help Tony Abbott take full control of the senate.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Unless you vote below the line in the order of your preference. Also be aware that Antony Green suggests you may choose to place the number 1 for the party of your choice above the line also. Your below the line vote will be the one the electoral commission uses as long as it’s filled out correctly but if you’ve made mistakes (easy to do with 110 candidates) and invalidated it they’ll then accept your above the line choice.

  2. I just want a party that will:
    1) Buy back Australia; reinstate our constitutional rights and cultural values.
    2) Stop illegal immigrants and boats from entering our boarders; stop multiculturalism.
    3) Pull out of the UN and stop Agenda 21.
    4) Make housing more affordable.
    5) Abolish the carbon tax and reduce the cost of living.
    6) Maintain the natural environment by planting more trees, keeping our rivers free of pollution, building more dams and protecting native wildlife.
    7) Cherish and promote Aboriginal culture as part of our heritage.
    8) Develop an efficient public transport system.
    9) Provide free primary, secondary and tertiary education for all Australians.
    10) Give pensioners and the disabled a decent pension so that they can maintain their dignity.
    11) Deliver adequate funding to enable people to receive nursing care in their own homes; thus keeping hospital beds available for those who really need them and reducing the number of people being forced into aged care facilities.
    12) Legalize Euthanasia but regulate it properly to prevent abuse.
    13) Improve our health system by stopping the move to replace Registered Nurses with Enrolled Nurses and Personal Care Attendants.
    14) Invest in alternative therapies and natural medicines.
    15) Ensure vaccinations are not forced upon the public.
    16) Fix our broken judiciary system by giving victims of crime a voice and holding magistrates, judged, and parole boards accountable for their decisions.
    17) Reduce our global debt crisis by cutting out unnecessary spending on globalization, illegal refugees, political propaganda campaigns and false flag wars.
    18) Finally give us a true democratic party that is honest and works for Australians instead of foreign investors.
