An accident on the Pacific Highway near Bangalow has seen traffic slow to a crawl.

A motorbike collided with a car near the intersection with Coolamon Scenic Drive, at the crest of Mt St Helena, at around 6.20am.

The rider, a man in his 40s, is suffering serious injuries to his head and arm and has been taken to the Tweed Hospital.

The driver of the car has been taken to Byron Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

A two-vehicle accident between Lawrence and Grafton has resulted in at least one person dead and has slowed traffic on the highway in both directions.

One of the vehicles in the head-on collision on Lawrence Road caught alight, with at least one passenger trapped in the vehicle.

The driver of a utility, also in the collision was taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital with leg and pelvic injuries.
